Priyanka Gandhi, or Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was born on January 12, 1972. She was birth in a Nehru-Gandhi family. She is the daughter of Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Her mother was the President of the Indian National Congress, and her father was the Prime Minister of India. She is two years younger than his brother Rahul Gandhi. She married a businessman, Robert Vadra, on February 18, 1997. 

Priyanka is a mother of two children, namely Miraya and Rehan. Priyanka is an Indian politician. She is a unique persona of her own and is often correlated with her grandmother. She was not active in politics until January 2019. But she is famous in Amethi and Rae Bareli constituency.

Priyanka Gandhi vadra was born on January 12, 1972. She is an Indian politician and the General Secretary of the All-India Congress Committee in charge of Uttar Pradesh. She is Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi’s girlchild, granddaughter of Indira Gandhi and Feroze. Also, she is the trustee of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Priyanka’s aunt Menaka Gandhi is a politician from BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) who has been a Union Minister in the government of PM Narendra Modi. Her cousin Varun Gandhi is also a BJP  politician and has been MP to the Sultanpur constituency.

Gandhi pursued her schooling at New Delhi, in Modern School, and at the Convent of Jesus and Mary (New Delhi). She acquires her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Jesus and Mary College at the University of Delhi. After that, she held a Master’s Degree in Buddhist studies in 2010. Well, her role in politics was cryptic till 2019. She did not participate in active politics though she often ran campaigns for her mother and brother in their respective constituencies, Rae Bareli and Amethi. In an interview with BBC in 1999, she stated that politics is not a strong pull, and she can do things for them without being in politics, which she perceives as a clear vision. Though she declared that she would never join politics, she joined on January 23, 2019. She became the General Secretary of the Congress party in charge of the East region of Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi had frequently been to the mothers’ and brothers’ constituencies of Rae Bareli and Amethi. There she dealt with people directly. In the 2004 Indian general election, she was the manager of her mother’s campaign and supported and supervised her brother’s campaign. In the Uttar Pradesh election of 2007, while Rahul Gandhi managed the state-wide campaign, Priyanka focused on ten seats in the Amethi Rae Bareli region. She spent two weeks there trying to stop considerable conflict among the party workers over seat allocations.

Political Activities and General Secretary of AICC

On January 23, 2019, Priyanka officially entered politics by becoming the congress General Secretary in charge of the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. She was designated General Secretary in charge of the whole Uttar Pradesh on September 11, 2020. The police detained Gandhi in October 2021, who cited a ban on meetings while on her way to Agra to meet the family members of a man who supposedly died in police custody.

Priyanka Gandhi began the congress party’s Uttar Pradesh poll campaign from Barabanki on October 23, 2021. Congress party contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election under the leadership of Gandhi, losing the total.

Priyanka Gandhi’s maternal great-grandfather was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. Kamala Nehru, who was a freedom fighter, was her great-grandmother. Her uncle Sanjay Gandhi died in a plane crash. Her aunt is Menaka Gandhi, who is a politician. Priyanka’s cousin brother also is a politician. She is the girlchild of Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. She belongs to a prominent Nehru-Gandhi family.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is wedded to Robert Vadra. He is a businessman from Delhi. They both have a son and a daughter. The wedding happened at Gandhi’s home, ten Janpath, on February 18, 1997. Her entire ceremony was done according to Hindu tradition. She adheres to Buddhist philosophy and practices Vipassana as tutored by S N Goenka. She attended the marriage celebration party of Bollywood couple Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan on April 11, 2015, in New Delhi.
