Mahendra Singh Dhoni as, M S Dhoni, was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Jharkhand (Earlier Bihar) is an Indian cricketer who rose to fame in the early 21st century and led upto captaincy of the Indian National Team that achieved the one-day cricket World Cup 2011. He is an Indian former International cricketer who led India to win success in three ICC trophies in 2007, the ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 cricket World Cup, and the ICC Champions trophy 2013, the greatest by any Indian captain.
Under his captaincy, India also achieved the 2010 and 2016 Asia cup. He is a right-handed wicket-keeper batsman. He formed his International debut in 2004. His talent with the bat came to be visible in an innings of 148 runs against Pakistan in his fifth International match. Within a year, he united with the India Test team, where he rapidly set up himself with a century (100 or more runs in a single inning) against Pakistan. Despite his ignorance, Dhoni acquired the captaincy of the one-day side in 2007 and steered India to the Twenty20 World title. Series wins over Sri Lanka and Australia, among others, progressed India to the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings for the first time in December 2009.

In Indian domestic cricket, he performed for Bihar and Jharkhand cricket teams. He is the captain of CSK (Chennai Super Kings) in the Indian Premier League. He supervised the side to the championships in the 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021 editions of the IPL league. Also, under Dhoni’s captaincy, Chennai Super Kings won the Champions League T20 twice in 2010 and 2014.

In 1998, Dhoni was chosen by Deval Sahay, a former Bihar Cricket Association Vice President, and District Cricket President in Ranchi, to perform for the Central Coal Field Limited (CCL) team. Till 1998, Dhoni had never played professional cricket. He got a chance to bat higher up in order at CCL, which led CCL to move to the A division. Dhoni progressed to the Bihar team, the senior Bihar Ranji team, within one year.

In the second game of the series, Dhoni, in his fifth One-Day International secured 148 in Visakhapatnam off only 123 deliveries. Dhoni’s 148 excels the earlier record for the top score by an Indian wicket-keeper. Dhoni accoladed a B-grade contract by the BCCI in December 2005. India secured 328 in 50 overs, where Dhoni contributed 68 in their first match of 2006 against Pakistan.
2007 World Cup

M S Dhoni hails from a Hindu Rajput family with roots in Uttarakhand and was born in Ranchi, Bihar, now Jharkhand. Dhoni is the youngest of three children of Devaki Devi and Pan Singh. His patrimonial village Lwali is in a joint Tehsil in the Lamgara block of the Almora district of Uttarakhand.
