INDW vs AUSW:  Harris and Perry’s Class with the Bat

INDW vs AUSW: At the midway point of the pursuit, they held the upper hand, but India will regret how quickly things fell after that point. They made things more difficult for themselves by making a few careless strokes, but the Aussies put on an outstanding bowling performance and Alyssa Healy led them with an equally adventurous showing after Ellyse Perry and Grace Harris helped them reach 172.

In the opening over, Darcie Brown delivered 9 runs in aggregate, all of which were wides. She made a shocking start, however. She masterfully turned things around by removing Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues from the powerplay. The latter appeared to be in excellent condition. So the in-decker that slashed back in to enclose her at the side was precisely what the side needed to cheer them up.

INDW vs AUSW: Verma’s 52 Couldn’t bring Triumph to the Indian side

INDW vs AUSW: Ashleigh Gardner dropped Shafali Verma early in an innings, making her life easy. The Rohtak-born opening batsman, though, concentrated on making a statement. After bringing Alana King downtown as well, she killed Nicola Carey to speed up the pursuit. Despite Perry’s repeated use of short-pitched noises, Shafali was in no mood to stop and amassed a half-century anywhere along the way. Harmanpreet Kaur originally took her time. But she was able to gather up speed when Healy made a mess of things, giving her a lucky break.

But as soon as Shafali was declared the winner, everything fell apart for the hosts. The choice to move Devika Vaidya up the hierarchy didn’t work out well as the asking rate continued to rise.

India Lost Momentum

INDW vs AUSW: Within a few balls, Gardner terminated both Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh, and after Harmanpreet fled, it was the last straw. The Australians were not going to budge after India suddenly lost control of the momentum from a situation of dominance. They sealed a convincing victory with a professional death overs performance. Putting the Indian stars to wonder what might have gone differently.

On a scorcher of a track, this felt like a score that could be pursued. However, this performance raises concerns about Smriti Mandhana’s potential overdependence at the top of the hierarchy. India still has job to do because they are behind in the series. Attend the presenting event if you can.
