Australian cricketer Steve Smith has confirmed to return to IPL 2023. Yes, you heard it right, after a long gap of two years away from IPL he is finally coming back this season. He participated in IPL in 2021 from Delhi Capitals the franchise acquired him for 2.20 crores in 2021 IPl action. Steve Smith has had an amazing run in the IPL. He has played 103 games and scored 2485 runs at an impressive average of 34.51.

In the last match against Mumbai Indians in UAE, he scored 98. His highest score in IPL til now is 101 runs and 11 half-centuries. The Australian batter debuted in IPL with the Pune Warriors franchise in 2012 and he played his first-ever match against Mumbai Indians.

Steve Smith also led the Australian team in two matches against India in the ODI series in the absence of captain Pat Cummins. He replaced Tim Paine as skipper and became Cummins’ assistant in November 2021.

The Twitter account of Steve Smith announce his reentry into IPL this year with Rajasthan Royals. “Namaste India, I have got some exciting news for you. I am joining IPL 2023. I am joining an exceptional and passionate team in India,” Steve Smith said in a video he posted on his Twitter handle.

Steve Smith Twitter was bombarded with retweets immediately after the post. Many fans welcomed him after his video post and many wanted to ask exactly which team he will be playing with. Fans assumed his debut in IPl as a commentator. Well, whether Smith chooses to play or commentary fans will be happy to get to see him in IPL.

For three consecutive years 2018,19,20, he played with Rajasthan Royals. The franchise acquired him for 12.5 crores each year. Steve Smith led RR in 2019 and 2020. He rejoined Delhi Capitals in 2021 under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. During the suspension of the franchise Rajasthan Royals in 2016 and 2017, he played with Rising Pune Super Giants and led the team till the finals in 2017.

According to the Times of India, Smith will be debuting as a commentator in IPL on the opening match between Gujrat Giants and Chennai Super Kings in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. All the teams are set to kick start the IPL season 2023. Tamannah Bhatia and Rashmika Mandhana will be performing at the opening ceremony at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Fans can’t keep calm to see their favorite team play this season.
