Umar Akmal’s Fire Power Couldn’t Save Sinking Quetta Gladiators

QG vs ISL: After winning the toss, Islamabad United decided to bowl first. And Fazal and other bowlers proved that it was the right decision to bowl first. Fazal thrashed the top order of Quetta Gladiators, and the visitors were at just 17 runs when they lost their four wickets in the last over of the powerplay. However, the two southpaws saved Quetta Gladiators and took them to a decent score of 121 in the 17th over. At 16.3 came Umar Akmal, who played a great inning of 43 in just 17 balls which took Quetta Gladiators to a winning total of 179.

QG vs ISL: Islamabad United, while chasing 180, lost an early wicket to Gurbaz. By this time, Quetta was way ahead of Islamabad United, and fans felt that, finally, Quetta Gladiators would add some points to their bucket. However, this hope didn’t last long, as Munro started the counterattack and took the host to a winning position. He and Alex Hales scored a good 63 runs in the powerplay. Soon Islamabad lost Alex Hales, and the wicket of Alex Hales triggered the mini-collapse for Islamabad United. After the fall of Alex Hales, Captain Shadab and well-set Colin Munro, who was batting well for his 63 in 29 balls, also departed. When Asif Ali departed, Islamabad was at 111, and their 6 wickets were down.

It was another opportunity for the crisis man of Islamabad United to show his class and temperament. He and Faheem Ashraf took the match deep and finally, after a good finish, helped Islamabad United win the match by 2 wickets with three bowls left. Azam Khan and Faheem Ashraf scored 35 and 39, respectively.
