Kheri parliamentary constituency is one among the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies. In the Kheri parliamentary constituency 2019 election, Bhartiya Janata Party candidate Ajay Mishra Teni won the election by the number of votes 609,589. He defeated SP candidate Dr. Purvi Verma who got 3,90,782 votes. Also defeated Indian National Congress candidate Zafar Ali Naqvi who collected 92,155 votes.

Ajay Kumar Mishra is a member of parliament from the Kheri parliamentary constituency  2014. Bharatiya Janata Party won this seat by defeating BSP  by 110274 votes. Kheri is also called Lakhimpur Kheri, and its ancient name is Lakshmipur Kheri. It has a population of 25,017, out of which 52% are males, and 48% are females. There is an average literacy rate of 43%. There are five assembly constituencies under this parliamentary constituency. Those names are Palia, Nighasan, Gola Gokarnath, Srinagar and Lakhimpur. Among them, Srinagar is reserved for scheduled castes.

In the 2019 parliamentary constituency election, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Ajay Mishra Teni won the election. The candidates who ranked lower scores are Dr. Purvi Verma of SP, Zafar Ali Naqvi of the Indian National Congress, and Vipnesh Shukla of the Communist Party of India, whose votes are 3,90,782, 92,155 and 11,857, respectively. 

Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni: A Political Persona

Ajay Kumar Mishra was born on 25 September 1960. He is now the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Ajay acts for Kheri constituency for Uttar Pradesh. He is a political member of the Bhartiya Janata Party. 

He was born in Banveer Pur village in the Kheri district. Teni does his study at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University’s Christ Church college in Kanpur. And also in DAV college. He pursued a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree. Mishra was elected in the 16th Legislative Assembly as MLA of Uttar Pradesh from Nighasan in 2012. He won the parliamentary constituency election in 2014 and 2019 from the Kheri constituency. 

Mishra was designated a member of the Standing Committee on Rural Development. He embellished as a state member in the second Modi Ministry’s Home Affairs Ministry after the cabinet reorganization. 

Violence of Lakhimpur Kheri

Teni attended a program in the Palia town of Kheri district in September 2021. During this program, the farmers showed their black flags as a sign of protest. Teni intimidated by stating a speech “Sudhar jao, nhi toh hum apko sudhaar denge, 2 minute lagega keval.” A farmer organized a protest later against Teni’s visit as he responded to the threat. 

BJP leaders Teni and Keshav Prasad Maurya decided to attend a program in this area on October 3, 2021. Ashish Mishra, Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son, supposedly ran his car over farmers protesting in Lakhimpur Kheri. A journalist and four farmers were killed, and several were injured. Three minister members were killed in the crowd, executed by the farmers protesting the car-ramming incident. Ten people were injured, and eight people have died. 

The supreme court conveys displeasure against the lack of measures taken against the accused in this case. Ashish Mishra denied the charge and avoided the police. After, he was interrogated by arrested by the UP police on October 2021 9. 

When was The First Election Held in Lakhimpur Kheri?

The first election held in Lakhimpur Kheri was in 1957. The MP was Kushwaqt Rai of the Praja Socialist Party. PSP won 10.41% of votes in total and 19 seats in lok sabha. At the same time, the vote of the party’s share declined in other elections. It won 12 seats in Lok Sabha in 1962. In comparison, there were 13 seats in the parliamentary constituency in 1967.
