PAK vs NZ Day 4: After leaving the Pakistanis floundering at 0/2 at stumps on Day 4 of the current 2nd Test versus Pakistan, New Zealand finished the day on a commanding track. As Pakistan needed 319 runs to victory, Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi for the kiwis removed Abdullah Shafique and Mir Hamza.

Following 74 runs apiece from Tom Blundell and Michael Bracewell, The kiwis declared their session at 277/5. Aside from them, Kane Williamson hit 41 runs and Tom Latham hammered 62. Naseem Shah, Hasan Ali, Abrar Ahmed, Mir Hamza, and Agha Salman all took a wicket for Pakistan.

PAK vs NZ Day 4: A delayed declaration by Tim Southee, some resourceful defending following tea, and 2 Pakistan casualties in the closing 10 mins of the 4th day provided New Zealand a significant lead heading into day 5.

In order to clinch the last Test in the tied game, New Zealand will be required to take 8 wickets, whilst Pakistan must either achieve 319 runs, a milestone total on Pakistani soil or last a total of 90 overs. In the opening over to build a 41-run advantage, New Zealand dismissed Pakistan’s overnight No. 11 to win 2 of the 3 innings.

However, Pakistan would have been demoralized by the manner Blundell and Bracewell fought in the 3rd phase. Following lunchtime, Pakistan managed to take the top 3 wickets in the rapid series in an attempt to chase down a smaller total, but Blundell and Bracewell put together a 120-run stand for the 5th wicket. This enabled New Zealand to establish a goal of 319 and declare 277 for 5.

However, with 3 overs remaining until the end of the play, Pakistan experienced their worst-case circumstance. Southee dismissed Abdullah Shafique for a 0, while Ish Sodhi’s drifter also sent Mir Hamza for 0.  Pakistan finished the day, 0 for 2 altogether.

Pakistan’s day had similarly started miserably. They had batted for just 1 over on the 4th morning before being dismissed for 408, leaving them with a 41-run disadvantage. Latham and Williamson utilized their sweeping, and the latter’s strokes well out, to put up a collaboration of 109 despite Hamza dismissing Devon Conway at 0.

Then, in a frenzied stretch of action. Latham and Williamson attempted to increase New Zealand’s advantage but the duo was removed. Latham, who was on 57, was captured behind the wickets by Abrar Ahmed but avoided being given out leg before wicket because Pakistan. Who had just 1 appeal left, did not step up after umpire Alex Wharf rejected it.

Though Latham dismissed for 62 in the following over after attempting to move Naseem Shah across his hip. And hitting the delivery to the left of a jumping Abrar at short midwicket. Babar Azam‘s selection did not affect Pakistan. The next hitter Nicholls then overcame an umpire’s caught-behind call. However, his replay altered the call when no edge found.

Abrar then caught Williamson trying sweeping while feeling more certain as a result of the Latham grab. Williamson requested a challenge and rejected by the slimmest of gaps. After the ball touched his leg stump’s outer portion.

Agha Salman dismisses Blundell to break the partnership

Following New Zealand‘s advantage reached 270 after the 75th over, Bracewell truly started to shine. Bracewell had scored 45 runs in 99 deliveries at that point. But he hit Abrar for back-to-back 4s to reach his first Test 50. Blundell was attempting to slog an additional boundary when he collapsed for 74, but Bracewell was still undefeated at 74. Even though there was still daylight, New Zealand decided to deliver 3 overs at Pakistan. Rather than a bat through the day. That turned out to be fatal for the Pakistanis in difficult circumstances.
