Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 Parliamentary constituencies in the State of Uttar Pradesh, which is in Doab region of the State.
It covers almost one-fourth area of the city of Kanpur and is 100% urban. The rest of the area of the city comes under Akbarpur Lok Sabha constituency.
The rest left area of the city outgrowths across the Ganga river and is the part of the Unnao Lok Sabha constituency
This urban general constituency has an estimated population of around 11.47% Scheduled Caste.
As well as an estimated population of approximately 0.11% Scheduled Tribe. The estimated literacy level of Kanpur constituency is approximate 82.86%.
The constituency of Kanpur came into existence in 1952. At the time, the constituency had 5 assembly segments which included Aryanagar, Sisamau, Generalganj, Kanpur, Cantonment, and Govindnagar.
Later the Delimitation Commission of India implemented the delimitation on the assembly constituency of Kanpur.
After that the assembly constituency covers the segments such as Govind Nagar, Sisamau, Arya Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, and Kanpur Cantt.
Kanpur Constituency Previous Elections with Stats
Speaking about Previous Elections Stats, in 2019s Lok Sabha elections, there were a total number of 1632983 eligible electors.
And the calculated total voter turnout from the seat were at %. The total valid votes from this seat in this election found is around 842994.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate Satyadev Pachauri won the elections and became MP from this seat.
Pachauri secured a total of 468937 votes. Resulting his opponent, the candidate of INC, Sriprakash Jaiswal stood second with a total of 313003 votes.
Jaiswal as a result lost to Pachauri by 155934 votes. In the election, a total of 15 candidates stood from the various political parties.

In the year 2015, Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency had a total of 1611248 eligible electors.
In this election, the candidate of BJP Murli Manohar Joshi of BJP won the seat by defeating the INC candidate.
Murli secured a total of 474712 votes. Resulting his opponent, Sriprakash Jaiswal came second as he received 251766 votes.
Causing result of Sriprakash lost to Manohar by a margin of 2,22,946 votes, which is 26.70% of the total votes polled in the constituency.
In 2014, Bharatiya Janata party had a vote share of 56.85% from this seat. At the time, a total of 22 contestants stood from the seat.
Stats for 2009 Elections
If we talk about the 2009 elections, the constituency had a total of 1390055 electors. The total number of valid votes were approximately 512878 in 2009.
A candidate of Indian National Congress, Sri Prakash Jaiswal emerged victorious from this constituency.
Sri Prakash received a total number of 214988 votes to become the MP from the seat while his opponent received 196082 votes.
As a result, he defeated a BJP candidate, Satish Mahana, who lost to Prakash by a margin of 18,906 votes, which is the 3.69% of the total votes polled.
INC had a vote share of 41.91% in 2009 in the constituency. A total of 18 contestants stood from the seat.
Kanpur Current MP
The Current MP from the seat of Kanpur parliamentary constituency is Satyadev Pachauri.
He’s a former Minister of Khadi, Village Industries, Sericulture, Textile, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.
He is also the former Minister of Export and Promotion in the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Satyadev assumed office as a member of parliament, lok sabha on May 23, 2019. He Preceded the position by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi.
The current MP of Kanpur were reportedly involved in a controversy for publicly ridiculing a female disabled employee.
The controversy came into the spotlight as a result when a disability activist Satendra Singh filed the first case under the new Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
When Was the First Elections Held in Kanpur Constituency
The first general elections in Kanpur parliamentary constituency were held in 1952.
At the time, the candidate of Indian National Congress, Harihar Nath Shastri emerged the winner as he secured a total of 88,812 votes.
Harihar actively worked as the labour leader. He is also known as the the First President of Indian National Railway Workers Federation.
Shastri, who had done his education from Banaras Hindu University had worked with Lala Lajpat Rai for a year as his personal secretary.
Though after a while, in the same year again by-election took place resulting another candidate from the Indian National Congress Party, Shiv Narayan Tandon was selected as the MP from the seat.
Tandon secured a total number of 60,087 votes and won the election. However, in the same year, again by-election were held.
Resulting, another politician, Prof. Raja Ram Shastri from the PSP by-elected as the MP from the seat.
Prof. Raja Ram became the MP of Kanpur Central after he received a total of 65,739 votes from the seat.
