Australia vs Sri Lanka Match 19 T20 World Cup: Australia beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets at Perth. Australia claimed their first win in Super 12. They were beaten by New Zealand in their Opening Match of T20 World Cup. By beating Sri Lanka, they not only get 2 points but also improved their net run rate. Their net run rate is now -1.555 and they will try to improve it in their upcoming matches.

Chasing down a target of 158 Australian All-rounder Marcus Stoinis smashed 17 balls half century and helps Australia to chase down the target in 16.3 overs.

Aus vs SL: Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first

Australian Skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to field first. After being Invited to bat first Sri Lanka did not start well as they lost Kusal Mendis on the score of 6. Pat Cummins dismissed Kusal Mendis 5(6). Sri Lankan batsman were struggling to make runs against Australian bowlers with their tight bowling.

They did not give Sri Lanka batsman any chances to make runs easily with some extra bounce on the pitch. Sri Lanka batsman Pathum Nissanka was struggling very hard to make runs and played a slow innings of 40 runs in 45 balls.

None of their top order batsman stood against the Australian bowlers. Sri Lanka went down from 97/3 to 120/6 in quick succession. Sri Lanka were struggling on 126/6 but however, Sri Lanka manage to add 31 runs in the last two over with the help of Charith Asalanka 38*(25) and Chamika Karunaratne 14*(7) Sri Lanka manage to finish their inning on 157/6 in 20 overs.

Australian bowlers like Hazlewood, Starc, Cummins, Agar and maxwell each got one wicket a piece. Mitchell Starc was the most economical bowler for Australia as he just conceded 23 runs in his 4 over quota.

Chasing a target 158 runs, Australia did not start well and lost David Warner early. Australia lost David Warner on the score of 26. On the other hand, Australian skipper Aaron Finch was struggling to make runs. He was putting his team under the pressure with his slow strike rate. Sri Lanka bowlers were bowling well to keep Australian batsman quiet.

Dhananjaya De Silva dismissed Mitchell Marsh 17(17), Australia was on 60/2 in 8.3 overs, then Glenn Maxwell played a small cameo of 23 runs in just 12 balls and gave some momentum to Australia. He smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes for his team. He got out to Chamika Karunaratne as he was trying hit another six.

Australia was on 89/3 in 12.2 overs. They needed 69 runs of 46 balls when Marcus Stoinis came to bat. Marcus smashed Sri Lankan bowlers all over the ground. He hit his half century in just 17 balls and single handedly took the game away from Sri Lanka. He remained not out on 59 runs off just 18 balls and took his team over the line as Australia manage to beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets. Australian net run-rate will get some boost as they won the match with 21 balls to spare.

Marcus Stoinis took the game away from Sri Lanka’s reach single handedly. Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis hit match winning fifty against Sri Lanka. This is the fastest fifty by an Australian in the shortest format. He reached his half century in just 17 balls. He smashed 6 sixes and 4 fours in his innings and ended up making 59 not out in 18 balls with a strike rate of 327.78 and and for his match winning knock he also gets the Player of the Match Award.

Australia was in trouble when he entered in the arena. Three wickets were down and the run-rate was climbing like a rocket. Aaron Finch was struggling at the other end as he was unable to hit a boundary. Stoinis came and conquered the Sri Lanka bowlers. Specially he took the charge against the spinners. In the 16th over of Theekshana he hits 3 gorgeous sixes to him. Before that he hits 2 sixes and a four to Wanindu Hasaranga in the 15th over of Australia inning. At one time the game was looking much far away from the hosts but Stoinis sensation made possible for them to get 2 crucial points against Sri Lanka.

Australia will play their next game against the mighty England side. England is in favorite list of cricket expert to win this edition. The game is scheduled on October 28, Friday at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
