South Africa vs Zimbabwe T20 World Cup match has been called off due to rain. They both shared the half points with each other. South African wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock’s inning goes in vain as the match has been called off. Quinton De Kock played a blitzing innings of 47 runs off just 18 balls. South Africa were cruising at the target as they reached to 51 runs in just 3 overs. Suddenly the rain interrupted the game again and umpires called it off after observing the pitch conditions and weather situations.

T20 World Cup: Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bat first

Zimbabwe Skipper Craig Ervine won the toss and decided to bat first. Zimbabwe did not get the good start as they lost their skipper Craig Ervine for just 2 runs. Wayne Parnell took the first wicket of opposition team and sent Craig Ervine to dugout. They lost their 4 wickets just for 19 runs within 4 overs. Madhevere was the only Zimbabwe batsman who got some runs and scored 35 off 18 balls. He hits 4 fours and a six. Zimbabwe could only manage the 79 runs in 9 overs and set the target of 80 runs for South Africa.

Wayne Parnell was the pick of the bowler for South Africa as he took important wicket of opposition skipper. He just conceded 6 runs from his 2 over quota and dismissed Craig Ervine. Meanwhile Lungi Ngidi took 2 wickets for 20 runs.

South African chase halted by the rain

South Africa got the target of 80 runs in 9 overs. They started their chase in a furious way and scored 51 runs in just 3 overs. South African wicket-keeper batsman Quinton De Kock made 47 off 18 balls. Suddenly the rain interrupted the match again and umpires called it off later after waiting so long for rain to stop but it does not happen so. The umpires reported to Match Referee that the pitch conditions and weather situation is not in playing circumstances. The match has been called off later and the points of the match has been shared between South Africa and Zimbabwe. South African players were not happy with the result as they were just close to win the match. They were disappointed with this result but have no other option than that.

The T20 World Cup campaign of South Africa could be in trouble as they shared the points of the match with Zimbabwe. Now Temba Bavuma need to win the both crucial matches against India and Pakistan to remain their campaign alive. If Bavuma & team wins the match against Pakistan then Pakistan will be out of the T20 World Cup from the Round 12. If Pakistan wins the match against South Africa then the South Africa will be in trouble whether they win all the matches against the remaining teams. Whosoever wins that crucial match between South Africa and Pakistan will go in the next round for sure.

This is the worst situation for Pakistan as well, as India faced it in the last World Cup held in UAE. In that edition India also faced the same heat as India lost their first game against Pakistan and then against New Zealand. India never came out of the pressure after losing the first match and their campaign ended in the Round of 12.

South Africa have to win both their matches against India and Pakistan within the space of 5 days. They will face India on October 30, Sunday at Perth.

South Africa and Pakistan will face each other on November 3, Thursday at SCG, Sydney. This day will decide the fortune of both teams who will go ahead in the T20 World Cup 2022.
