Women’s Doubles Final: In a sensational 6-4/ 6-3 win against Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara on Sunday, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova won the Women’s Doubles event at the Australian Open for the year 2023. This is their 5th Grand Slam success as a team. The Top seeds won in 1 hour and 29 mins on Rod Laver Arena, making them the 1st team to successfully defend an AO Women’s Doubles Championship since Italy’s Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci did it in 2014.

In the initial game of their first-ever encounter with the Japanese side, the Czech team held, dominating as Krejcikova topped 2 break opportunities. Although Krejcikova and Siniakova’s quick hands and quick reflexes allowed them to control the match and win the round.

Women’s Doubles Final: The skilled Czech duo kept their composure to breakthrough in the 1st game of the 2nd set. But the 10th-seeded Japanese team effectively reclaimed the lead in the 4th game as Siniakova slammed a crosscourt backhand through into the net.

The Australian Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open Doubles Championships were all won by the Czech duo last year. The ever-aggressive Top seeds produced 3 breakthrough attempts in the 7th game. With a forehand across the net to earn the breakthrough and add to her team’s total of 33 victories.

Women’s Doubles Final: Krejcikova and Siniakova won 3 more break points in the 2nd set to end the contest in 89 minutes. After smashing their opposition in the 1st game and maintaining service across the 1st set.

At Grand Slam Tournaments, Krejcikova and Siniakova have won 24 straight matches in Women’s Doubles. Given that they conquered all 3 of the significant Tournaments they competed in the previous year, they have not dropped a Grand Slam Women’s Doubles encounter since 2021.

Women’s Doubles Final: After trailing by a break initially in the 2nd set once more. Aoyama and Shibahara broke Siniakova and levelled the score at 2-2 with some strong rates of return.

Krejcikova’s winning forehand provided the Czechs a love break as well as a 4-3 advantage. And they went on to claim another significant Title after that. Unfortunately on victory point, Shibahara slammed a backhand further into the net. And the delighted Top seeds embraced a hug and high five in jubilation.

Women’s Doubles Final: Aoyama, 35, was vying for her maiden Grand Slam Championship. Whereas Shibahara, 24, was pursuing her 2nd major after winning the French Open Mixed Doubles with Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof the previous season.

The 10th seeds Aoyama and Shibahara have progressed over the past 3 years in Melbourne, amidst the defeat on Sunday. They advanced to the Australian Open Women’s Doubles Championship Final this year, becoming the 3rd and 4th Japanese players to achieve it. After finishing in the Quarter-Finals in 2021 and the Semifinals in 2022.
