Om Birla, born on November 23, 1962, is a social worker, agriculturalist and, importantly, an Indian politician. He is the 17th and current speaker of Lok Sabha. He worked for the Kota Bundi constituency of Rajasthan. He is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Before parliament, he was a three-time elected person to the assembly of Rajasthan. He took birth to parents named Shrikrishna Birla and Shakuntala Devi in a Marwari Hindu Maheshwari family.
Om Birla pursued his Master’s Degree from the Government Commerce college, Kota. And also from Maharshi Dayanand University, Ajmer. His spouse’s name is Amita Birla. They got married in 1991. They are the parents of two daughters, Akanksha and Anjali.
In 2003, Birla won his first assembly elections contesting from South Kota. He defeated Congress candidate Dhariwal on the verge of 10,101 votes. Before becoming a member of parliament, he won his third assembly election, which was against Pankaj Mehta of Congress, which was close to 50,000 votes in 2013. During his tenure from 2003-2008, he was the Parliamentary Secretary of the Rajasthan government.
Om Birla was elected as the 16th and 17th parliamentary constituency for the Kota constituency. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Energy and a Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in the 16th Lok Sabha.
