Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 parliamentary constituencies in the State of Uttar Pradesh. This constituency is in Doab region of Uttar Pradesh. The constituency established back in 1952.

It consists of a total of 5 Vidhan Sabha segments including, Mainpuri, Bhongaon, Kishni SC, Karhal and Jaswantnagar. This parliamentary constituency has an estimated population of approximately 20.51% Scheduled Caste while an estimated population of around 0.02% Scheduled Tribe.

As per reports, the estimated literacy rate of Mainpuri is 76.1%. Speaking about 2019’s elections, there were a total of 1702320 eligible electors while their calculated voter turnout were at %.

In Mainpuri constituency, approximately 45% of the 1.73 million voters are Yadavs. Other than that, the dominant voter castes are Shakya, Bhrahmins, Scheduled Castes and Muslims.

The extent of Mainpuri Assembly constituency is KCs Kurawali, Mainpuri, Kuraoli NP, Jyoti Khuria NP and Mainpuri (MB+OG) of Mainpuri Tehsil.

Speaking about 2019 elections, the seat of Mainpuri was won by Mulayam Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party. He won the seat by a total margin of 94,389. As A Result, he defeated Prem Singh Shakya of BJP, who secured 430537 votes. At the time a total of 13 candidates stood from the seat.

Mulayam Singh secured a total of 5,24,926 votes. The constituency witnessed voter turnout of 56.79%. In 2019, the constituency had a total of approximately 1723236 electors. Out of which a total number of valid votes were around 976518.

In the year 2014, Mulayam Singh Yadav won and again became the MP from the seat. At the time, he secured a total of approximately 595918 votes. 

Resulting he defeated BJP’s candidate Shatrughan Singh Chauhan, who secured 231252 votes. In the year, the constituency had a total of 1653058 electors. If we talk about 2009’s elections, Mainpuri constituency again witnessed the winning of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Yadav secured the seat by receiving a total of approximately 392308 votes. Resulting, he defeated BSP’s candidate Vinay Shakya, who received a total of 219239 votes. At the time the constituency had a total of 1399259 electors. Out of which only 695032 votes were valid.

What Did Census Reveals?

As per 2011 Census, at Mainpuri constituency, the total number of SC voters is approximately 351,779 which is around 20.5%. If we talk about the ST voter, as per the same Census, the total number of voters is approximately 0 which is 0%. While the rural voter at the seat is around 1,487,766 which is 86.7%.

Urban voters at the seat is approximately 228,227 which is around 13.3%. The total number of voters from the seat as of parliamentary elections 2019 is 1715993 .

The total number of polling booths of the Mainpuri constituency seat as of 2019’s elections is 2179. If we talk about the percentage value of total voters Turnout for 2017 assembly elections that is 60.6% from the Mainpuri constituency seat.

Current MP of Mainpuri Lok Sabha Constituency 

The Current MP from the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency is Mulayam Singh Yadav, who won the seat in the 2019 election. 

Yadav assumed the seat on May 23, 2019, preceded by Tej Pratap Singh Yadav. Mulayam Singh served as the Minister of Defence, Government of India.

Yadav is also the founder-patron of the Samajwadi Party. He served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for 3 non-consecutive terms.

Earlier, he has also served as the Member of Parliament from Azamgarh and Sambhal constituencies. He is often called Netaji by party leaders and workers. 

For the first time in 1996, Mulayam Singh elected to the eleventh Lok Sabha from Mainpuri constituency. However that government fell in 1998 resulting in India going into fresh elections. 

As a result, Yadav returned to Lok Sabha but from another constituency named Sambhal. 

In April 1999 after the fall of Atal Bihari Vajpaye’s government, he didn’t support the Congress party in the formation of the centre government. 

In fact, the politician stood from two seats, Sambhal and Kannauj, fortunately he won from both. However, he resigned from Kannauj seat for his son Akhilesh in the by-elections. 

When was the first elections held in Mainpuri?

The first election in this constituency took place in 1952 after the “DPACO (1951),” that is delimitation order, passed in 1951. 

After the “Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order” passed, the constituency was assigned an identification number that is 107. 

In the first elections that were held from the constituency, Shri Badshah Gupta, a freedom fighter and the candidate of INC Party emerged victorious from the seat. 

Gupta again re-elected from the seat in 1962.
