Kannauj is a Lok Sabha/Parliamentary constituency in Doab region of Uttar Pradesh State. It is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies from the State. 

The constituency in Kannauj was established in 1987. It is a general category parliamentary seat. It consists of a part of Auraiya district, entire Kannauj district and a part of Kanpur Dehat district.

This rural general constituency has an estimated population of 21.36% Scheduled Caste and 0.01% population of Scheduled Tribe. According to reports the estimated literacy rate of Kannauj is approximately 74.32%. Speaking of Lok Sabha elections 2019, the total number of valid votes in 2014 was 1140496.

While there were around a total of 18,74,824 eligible electors. Though the number of eligible electors was 18,08,886 in 2014.

In the year 2019, Subrat Pathak, won the election and became the MP from the seat.

Pathak secured a total of 563087 votes. Resulting, Pathak’s opponent, Dimple Yadav, who stood from Samajwadi Party, became second with a total of 550734 votes. Dimple lost to Pathak by 12353 votes in 2019. In the year, SP had a vote share of 45.52% from the seat.

Kannauj’s Previous Elections with Stats 

In 2014, there were a total of 12 contestants who stood from the Kannauj Parliamentary Constituency. However, Dimple Yadav from Samajwadi Party won the seat by defeating a BJP candidate by a margin of 19,907 votes.

These margins were 1.79% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In 2014, SP had a vote share of 43.89% from the seat. In 2009, there were a total of 16 contestants who stood from the seat. However, Akhilesh Yadav, from Samajwadi Party emerged victorious from the seat.

He won the seat by defeating the BSP candidate by a margin of 1,15,864 votes. These margins were 15.62% of the total votes polled in the constituency. According to the 2014 electoral rolls, the seat includes 10,00,035 electorate eligible men, and 8,08,799 electorate eligible women, along with 52 voters from third gender.

Kannauj’s Current MP 

The Current MP from the seat is Subrat Pathak, who’s a candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party as well as the General Secretary of the Party from Uttar Pradesh.

Pathak won the constituency election Preceded by Dimple Yadav. He assumed office on June 18, 2019. The 43-year-old politician is a former President of Bharatiya Janata Party Youth Wing Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha.

The first election held in Kannauj Parliamentary Constituency

The first election in Kannauj took place in 1967. At the time, R.M. Lohia, who’s the candidate of SSP won the elections by receiving a total of 93578 votes and became the MP from the seat. 

Resulting Lohia’s opponents, S.N. Mishra, who’s the candidate of Congress Party became second by receiving a total of 93106 Votes.

What Did Census Reveals

According to the 2011 Census, the total SC voters from the Kannauj seat is around 400,254, which is approximately 21.4%. 

While as per the same census, the rural voters from the seat is around 1,612,239, which is 86.2%. 

Speaking of Urban voters from the seat, as per the census, it is around 258,108, which is approximately 13.8%. 

According to reports, in 2019 Parliamentary Elections, a total number of 2242 Polling Booths were held from Kannauj seat.
