The Gujarat Assembly election is going to be held in Gujarat on 1 & 5 December, 2022. It will be held in two phases to elect 182 members of the Gujarat Assembly Election. The counting of votes and results will be declared on December 8, 2022. The term of the 14th Gujarat Legislative Assembly is expected to end on February 18, 2023. The preceding assembly elections occured in December 2017. After the election, Bhartiya Janata Party created the state government, with Vijay Rupani becoming the Chief Minister. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister on September 11, 2021. Bhupendra Patel followed him as the new Chief Minister. Several bypolls were held since the last assembly elections in which major were won by BJP taking their power from 99 to 112 seats.

India TV-Matrize Opinion Polls: The governing BJP may win an absolute majority in both Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat Assembly Elections. And congress remains in second in both states, according to India TV-Matrize Opinion Polls.

Corresponding to the opinion poll, BJP  may win a large majority of 119 seats in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly. On the other hand, Congress may win 59 seats, and AAP may win only three seats. BJP won 99 seats in the 2017 assembly elections, and Congress won 81 seats while ‘others’ won two seats. 

Voting percentage-wise, according to opinion polls, BJP may get 51.3%, congress 37.2%, and AAP may only get 7.2% votes. In the assembly election of 2017, BJP had got 48.8% votes, the congress 42.3%, and ‘others’ 8.9 % votes.

Central Gujarat possesses 61 seats, BJP may get 43, congress 17 seats, and AAP 0. in South Gujarat possesses 35 seats, BJP may win 27, Congress with 7, and AAP only one seat. In Saurashtra-kutch possessing 54 seats, BJP may get 32 seats; congress may acquire 20 seats and AAP with only two seats. In North Gujarat, possessing 32 seats, BJP may acquire 17 seats, congress may get 15 seats, and AAP nil. 

The sampling taken in the India TV Matrize opinion poll was 91,000 pollee. Among these, 36.400 were females, and 54,600 were males, broadened in 182 assembly constituencies of Gujarat. The random sampling data collection happened from October 15 to 2nd novevember, with having 500 samples from each constituency. The verge of error being plus/minus 5 percent. 

The opinion polls display that BJP may acquire 48% Scheduled caste votes, 49% scheduled tribe votes, 58% Kadwa Patel votes, 52% OBC votes, 53% Leuva Patel votes, 14% Muslim votes, and 48% upper Hindu caste votes. 

On the other hand, congress may acquire 41% SC votes, 42% ST, 34% Kadwa Patel votes, 39% OBC votes, 37% Leuva Patel votes, 62% Muslim votes, and 41% upper Hindu caste votes in Gujurat Assembly Election.  

The rise in price remained the top matter for voters, with 28%. The second issue is unemployment, with 22 percent. Basic facilities appeared to be the third issue, with 16 percent. And the fourth issue is corruption, with nine percent. On questioning, who will form the government, the answer of 66% was BJP, 28 percent answered Congress, and only a minimum of 2% said AAP.

Gujarat Vidhan Sabha, or Gujarat Legislative Assembly, is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Gujarat, which is in Gandhinagar, the capital state. From its maximum party group or by way of a grand union of its prominent member, the state’s executive, the titled government of Gujarat, is formed. Currently, some 182 members of the legislative assembly are directly elected from single-member constituencies. It has a government of 5 years unless it is ended sooner. For scheduled castes, 13 constituencies are reserved, and 27 are reserved for scheduled tribes. 

Bhupendrabhai Rajnikantbhai Patel has been the current Chief Minister of Gujarat since September 2021. He is the member of BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party). He began his political career at the municipal bodies of Ahmedabad prior to being elected as a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly representing the Ghatlodia constituency in 2017.

Bhupendra Parel became a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for the Ghatlodia constituency after winning the 2017 Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections and rushing against Shashikant Patel of the Indian National Congress. He won by the record on the verge of 1,17,000 votes. On September 11, 2021, Vijay Rupani gave his resignation from the post of Chief Minister in Gujarat. Patel collectively elected as the BJP legislature Party leader and elected Gujarat Chief Minister on September 12, 2022, in the meeting of the Party legislature of Gandhinagar. He vowed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on September 13, 2021. He launched a Gujarat IT/ITeS policy 2022-2027 on February 8, 2022. 

Why the Whole Cabinet was Dissolved including CM before a year Ago?

Vijay Rupani had stepped down as the Chief Minister of Gujarat after a ‘flickery of developments.’ It is not clear what was the cause of this decision a year before the state goes to the polls. After giving his resignation to Acharya Devvrat, Rupani darted questions about the sudden decision. He stated that the alter of the guard is natural in the BJP. He thanked the party leadership for giving him a chance to be the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Some of the media reports stated that Rupani stepped down because of his uninspired administration. His performance was not as per expectations by the Party’s high command.

Indeed the saffron party has been fighting to find a perfect replacement for Narendra Modi, who worked as Chief Minister of Gujarat for 13 years since his election as Prime Minister. Rupani and Modi are two BJP chief ministers who served long in office for more than five years. 

Rupani was the third sitting BJP to dissolve in the recent past. Prior to him, Tirath Singh Rawat stepped down as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. B S Yediyurappa also resigned as Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Isudan Gadhvi will be the Chief Ministerial face of the Aam Admi Party in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly Election, declared National convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday.

Gadhvi acquires the post of joint General Secretary of the Aam Admi Party. He began his politics on June 14, 2021. Before that, he was a TV journalist working with Doordarshan and other news channels. 

In an interview, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced BJP is contesting for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly Election under Bhupendra Patel’s guidance. He will continue as Chief Minister if the party of saffron forms the next government. Patel has worked earlier as the Chairman of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority. He never possessed a ministerial post, just like Narendra Modi when he embellished as Gujarat Chief Minister twenty years ago. 

Meanwhile Congress have not declared the Chief Minister’s face for the Gujarat Assembly Election.

Positioning of Different Parties for the Current Assembly Election

Gujarat will vote in two phases for the assembly election beginning on December 1. After 24 years of incumbency in 2019 occur, that year BJP achieved all seats on offer in the Lok Sabha elections. With an ascending vote share of 62%. The party was forward to its rivals in all but nine assembly segments. That the only time the party devastated the state’s electoral rivals.

Only two years later, in the election of 2021 for urban local bodies, the party won 74% of all seats. The party bagged a fantastic 84% of all seats on offer in municipal corporation polls. In the 60 years of assembly elections, Gujarat has experienced bipolar competition through and through. At the same time, Congress ruled all elections between 1962 to 1990. BJP had increased strength from 1995. The 2017 assembly election demonstrate the best for congress in 22 years. With a vote share majority of 41%, the party secured 71% of the assembly seat. This was an achievement of 16 compared to the previous election. 

There are two unknowns however AAP rise and surging inflation in the post-pandemic period. Aam Admi Party positioning itself as Hindutva politics, made some reduction in the BJP fortress.
