Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh state.

This constituency came into existence in 2008 after the implementation of delimitation of parliamentary constituencies.

Which is based on the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission.

As of now, the constituency of Ghaziabad Lok Sabha comprises 5 Vidhan Sabha.

These segments including Loni, Muradnagar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Dholana (Hapur district).

According to reports, this semi-urban general constituency has an estimated population of Scheduled Caste around 14.18%.

While the estimated population of Scheduled Tribe in this constituency is approximately 0.12%.

The literacy level of Ghaziabad constituency is around 79.83%.

Previous Elections With Stats

In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, from the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency, there were a total of 2728978 eligible electors and the calculated voter turnout were in %.

In the last elections from this seat, the total number of calculated valid votes is 1524456 and  there were a total number of 13 candidates stood from the seat.

However, the candidates of Bharatiya Janata party, General Vijay Kumar Singh emerged as a winner to become the MP from the Seat.

Vijay had secured a total of 944503 votes.

As a result, his opponent, Suresh Bansal, a candidate of Samajwadi Party stood second while securing a total of 443003 votes.

Suresh Bansal lost by a margin of 501500 votes, which was 10.93% of the total votes polled.

Stats of the Ghaziabad constituency for 2014 Elections

If we talk about the stats of 2014 elections, the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency had a total of 2357553 eligible electors.

while the total number of calculated valid votes were 1342321.

A total of 16 candidates stood from the seat to become the next MP from the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency in 2014.

But Vijay Kumar Singh, a candidate of Bharatiya Janata party won the seat by securing a total of 7,58,482 votes.

Resulting, his opponent, Raj Babbar stood second as he received a total of 1,91,222 votes.

Raj Babbar lost to Kumar with a margin of 5,67,260 votes which was 42.26% of the total votes that were polled in the constituency.

In the 2014s elections, Bharatiya Janata Party had a total vote share of 56.51% from the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency seat.

Speaking about 2009 elections, Ghaziabad constituency had a total number of 1831688 eligible electors.

The total number of valid votes at the time were 829823.

In 2009s elections, a total of 16 candidates stood from the seat to become the first MP.

Rajnath Singh, a candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party won and became the first MP from Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency.

He had secured a total number of 359637 votes.

Resulting his opponent, Surendra Prakash Goel, a candidate of INC stood second as he received a total of 268956 votes.

Surendra Prakash Goel lost to Rajnath Singh from the margin of 90681 votes, which is 56.94% of the total votes polled.

Ghaziabad Current MP

The current MP from the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency seat is General Vijay Kumar Singh.

Kumar is a former four-star General in the Indian Army.  He is also the current Minister of State in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

As well as the Ministry of Civil Aviation in the Second Ministry of the Modi Government.

Previously, Vijay had served as a Minister of State for External Affairs.

He had also served as the Minister of State for Development of the North-eastern Region.

He is also the Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation in the First Ministry of the Modi Government.

For serving the country as a Army officer, Vijay has been honoured by some national prestige awards.

These awards Includes, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Yudh Seva Medal.

Vijay K Singh also known as the first serving Indian Chief of the Army Staff.

As he took legal actions against the Government of India after he took the Indian Government to Court in a dispute over his fate of birth and subsequent retirement.

After his retirement from the military, Vijay joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on March 1, 2014.

At the time he stood from the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency and he became the MP from the seat by defeating Raj Babbar of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 567,260 votes.

Later, the retired general got re-elected in 2019 from the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency seat.

When Was the First Parliamentary Elections Held in Ghaziabad

The First elections in the Ghaziabad Parliamentary Constituency took place in the year 2009.

At the time, a total of 16 candidates stood from the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency seat. However, Rajnath Singh, a candidate of BJP emerged victorious to become the MP from the seat.

Rajnath Singh had secured a total of around 359,637 votes. Resulting his opponent, Surendra Prakash Goel, a candidate of Indian National Congress party came second while receiving a total of 268956 votes.

Presently, Singh is serving as the Defence Minister of India as well as the Deputy Leader of the House Lok Sabha.

He’s the former President of Bharatiya Janata Party, who earlier had served as the Chief Minister of the State of Uttar Pradesh and as a Cabinet Minister during the Vajpayee Government.
