Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson was struggling to get the right line to bowl. They were bowling too much full length deliveries to the opposition openers which resulted in a long partnership. England batters are habitual of these lengths.

Ben Stokes broke the partnership and dismissed the New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson 40(40) to Adil Rashid at short third man.
The whole responsibility of chase came over the shoulder of Glenn Philips as he was the set batter and was striking the ball. Other batter need to stick around him but things did not came as expected. Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell got out in quick succession and disturbed the plan of New Zealand chase.
