Digvijaya is a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha as well as an Indian politician. Previously he served as the 14th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and a Central Indian State from 1993 to 2003 for two terms. Earlier, he was the minister of Chief Minister Arjun Singh’s cabinet between 1980 and 1984. Pragya Singh Thakur defeated him for the Bhopal Lok sabha seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. When he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, he resigned from the Lok sabha in 1993. As a congress MLA, his brother Laxman Singh was elected in 1993. He has been elected from the same Raghogarh assembly constituency Digvijaya had earlier held. Singh was Raghogarh Nagar Pallika’s President, a municipal committee, between 1969 and 1971.

He refused to take Vijaya Raje Scindia’s offer to join Jana Sangh in 1970 and joined the congress party. Rajiv Gandhi nominated him as the President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee between 1985 to 1988. Again he was re-elected in 1992. In the Indian General Election in 1984, Singh elected as a member of the 8th Lok sabha of the lower house of the Parliament of India. In the constituency which was created, he was the first congress politician to win. He won by 150,000 votes. But he lost the seat to Pyarelal khandelwal of BJP (Bhartiya Janata party) by 57,000 votes in the general elections of 1989. But he retrieved it in 1991 by becoming a member of the 10th Lok sabha.

Digvijaya Singh was born in Indore and the past princely state of Holkar of British India. Holkar is now a part of Madhya Pradesh. His father was the Raja of Raghogarh under Gwalior state, now known as Guna district of MP. His name is Bal Bhadra Singh. He was a member of the legislative assembly as an independent candidate for the Raghogarh Vidhan sabha constituency, which succeeded the 1951 election. Singh studied at Daly college in Indore. He completed his BE in mechanical engineering at  Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science ( SGSITS) in Indore. His rivals have criticized Singh for corruption.
