Joan Laporta is the present President of FC Barcelona and a Spanish Politician. In 2003 the latest generation of youth and energetic directors arrived at FC Barcelona and initiated a real stir-up. During the 7 years of Laporta’s Presidency, FC Barcelona achieved the World Club Cup, the European Super Cup, the King’s Cup, 4 League titles, 2 European Cups, 3 Catalonia Cups, and 3 Spanish Super Cups. In the social and economic areas, the annual budget raised from EUR 123 million to EUR 445 million whereas membership also increased from 106,135 to 173,701. After working as a President of FC Barcelona he has been a Member of the Parliament for Catalonia between 2010 to 2012. After leaving in 2010 he was re-selected as Club President in 2021.

As Joan Laporta began his involvement with FC Barcelona guiding the Blue Elephant group which disputed former President Josep Lluis Nunez and which tried uselessly a Vote of No Confidence in opposition to him in 1988. During 2003-2004, Laporta’s first season as President emerged to be climax but not without starting uncertainty. The condition of the club was bitter of disappointment and tragedy amongst players and fans after the club lost to reach their own standards to game Real Madrid’s victory in the early 2000s having didn’t obtained any trophy since 1999.

Joan Laporta encourages his board to advance innovative business ideas to raise revenues. The recent years achieved to turn around the luck of the club with the team impressively returning to form. As result ended second after being at the bottom of the table in 2003-2004. Lastly, they maintained to achieve La Liga titles both in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. Finally, the club achieved the UEFA Champions League on May 17, 2006. After the departure of Laporta as the President, the club endorsed shirt sponsorship with Qatar Foundation and later Qatar Airways which he denounced. 

In November 2020 Laporta declared presidency candidacy for the 2021 FC Barcelona presidential elections. He officially set foot in the race of presidential after dispensing 10,252 signatures out of which 9,625 were authentic. Thus he won the presidential election.

Joan Laporta is an advocate who pursued his graduation from the University of Barcelona. He is the lawyer in his own firm. The firm Laporta and Arbos had a number of other prominent Spanish businesses as clients. He worked as a Member of the Parliament for Catalonia. And also an advisor to the City Council of Barcelona. As a qualified advocate, Laporta’s firm Laporta and Arbos which is a united practice of economists and lawyers build up professional with a backdrop in the business scenario and the Civil Service whose aim is to supply enterprises with unified service.

Laporta took birth on 29 June 1962. He is the father of three sons. The name of his sons are Guillem, Pol, and Jan. He is wedded to Constanza Echevarria. They both made up their mind to get separated in 2008. Laporta’s son Pol Laporta is a footballer who used to play in the attacking midfield position. Laporta pursued his law at the University of Barcelona. After gaining his Master’s degree he set up his own law company Laporta and Arbos. He also stands as a Member of the Parliament of Catalonia as the Chief of the Catalan solidarity for Independence list. 

Barcelona has a long history of denying to have promoters on its shirts. FC Barcelona had settled a five-year collaboration with UNICEF in 2006. Where the club will donate €1.5 million and dress the UNICEF emblem on their jerseys. After Joan Laporta’s departure, the club managed the deals of jersey sponsorship with Qatar Foundation and then Qatar Airways both of which he rejected.
