IPL season 15th is all set to take place on 31 March 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The Delhi Capitals team has been part of the IPL since its beginning. Delhi Capitals was first known as Delhi Daredevils but the team changed its name in December 2018. The team will play its first match of IPL 2023 on 1 April 2023 against Lucknow Super Giants at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

GMR Groups and JSW Group founded the DC franchise in 2008 and the home ground of the franchise is Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi. In the auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Delhi Capitals spent a whooping amount of 5.5 crores on bowler Mukesh Kumar. David Warner is leading the team this season,
Pravin Amre is a batting coach and James Hopes is leading as a bowling coach.

Past History and Achievements of Delhi Capitals in IPL

The team was founded as Delhi Daredevils and Virendra Sehwag was the captain for the initial years. Despite having a strong captain and coach the team was not able to perform well for the initial years but they made it to the semi-finals in 2009 but couldn’t qualify for the finals.

The Daredevils won the league stage in 2012 but were eliminated in the semi-finals by Kolkata Knight Riders. After that, the squad was never able to return to the championships again. The team’s poor showing in 2018 led to the resignation of Gautam Gambhir, who had been named captain earlier that year. That season, the team was among the lowest in the competition.

The team has not been crowned for the championship but many significant improvements can be seen. They have qualified four times for the playoffs and made it to the finals once. In the 2020 season, they won 9 matches out of 14 matches and came second on the point table. Delhi Capitals defeated SRH in a qualifier match but lost against Mumbai Indians in the finals.

Strengths and Weaknesses of DC in IPL 2023

Delhi Capitals hasn’t won the IPL trophy but they performed the last few seasons very well and they were just a win away to qualify for the IPL 2022. The potential of the team looked fabulous but their inability to move into finals was unfortunate for the team and fans as well. The batting and bowling game was strong but they lack fielding power in some significant matches. However, this season David Warner will be leading the team so it will be interesting to see what decisions he makes to win his team. Strengths

The selection of the team in terms of players can be counted as the core strength. All of them together have to align themselves in the game to win. David Warner is one of the most talented players in the world and he knows the art of cricket. Warner helped Sunrisers Hyderabad win the trophy in 2013 and this season he may bring significant changes to the team that can put the team on the positive side. Mukesh Kumar can contribute much in terms of bowling as he is one of the finest bowlers playing with Delhi Capitals.

Players like Prithvi Shaw, Khaleel Ahmed, Sarfaraz Khan, and Yash Dhull are good enough to play for the Indian Cricket Team at the international level but they have to prove their potential. The IPL could be an amazing opportunity for them as well they can bring their best to the team.

Weaknesses

The team lacks competitive right-hand bowlers Chetan Sakaria, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman, making the team look like a surplus of left-hand bowlers. Apart from working on bowling, they need to improve their fielding game. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant’s absences may impact the team’s batting performance.

Players to Watch out for DC in IPl 2023

Rishabh Pant is the star player in the team Delhi Capitals, he is one of the best wicket-keepers in the Indian Cricket team. Rishabh led Delhi Capitals for the last few seasons in IPL. However, he is unlikely to compete this season due to his car accident last year December. Apart from Rishabh, Shardul Thakur was traded to KKR in the auction so he will be part of KKR this season.

This season David Warner is leading Delhi Capitals and it will be interesting to see what new changes he makes. Prithvi Shaw will be playing as the opening batsman for DC and Mitchell Marsh and Lalit Yadav are all-rounders in the team and fans have many hopes for them. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are some prominent players are included in the squad.
