United States fast bowler Ali Khan has been banned for two matches after breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. He was found breaching the Level 1 Article 2.5 Code of Conduct. Article 2.5 says “language, actions, or gestures” that provoke the opponent player after dismissal during an international match. He seemed to break the code of conduct during the ICC men’s Cricket World Cup qualifier playoff match.

Ali Khan suspended: he is not allowed to participate in the next two matches for the USA. Having violated the ICC Level 1 Code of Conduct, he will pay 30% of his fees as a fine and receive 2 demerit points. In 2021, Khan Ali docked two demerit points in two separate T20 matches against Bermuda. According to Article 7.6 of the Code, two latest points are converted into two suspension points.

Ali Khan suspended: along with Ali Khan, Jasdeep Singh, and Jersey’s Elliot Miles, who is also charged with violating the Article 2.12 ICC code of conduct. Article 2.12 refers to  “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other person during an international match. Jasdeep received 2 demerit points and was fined 30% of the match fees. Miles was fined 15% of the match fees and 1 penalty point. All three players admitted and accepted the penalties, so there was no need for an official hearing.

Sam Curran (England) and Rashada Williams (West Indies) are just two of many players who are alleged to have broken the same rules as Ali Khan. Virat Kohli has also received demerit points and a fine of 25% of his fees during a Test match against South Africa. When a player reaches four demerit points in disciplinary actions, they will be automatically suspended for the next few matches.

The ICC has defined certain rules and codes of conduct for players to control their actions. Every player has to obey these rules otherwise there are different penalties for breaching different levels of the code of conduct.

When a player reaches level four, they receive 4-8 demerit points and a suspension of 6-12 months. Well, Khan is suspended for the next two matches for the USA International matches. While Jasdeep and Miles have to pay penalties of 15 and 30 percent of their match fees.
