Rishi Sunak is the 5th UK Prime Minister, had achieved this title within just six years. He is the third leader to arrive at london’s 10 Downing street in less than two months. This was not always like this though the country has seen three PMs within a year only two times; the last was in 1834. The UK had three Prime Ministers in three decades before Gordon Brown of the labor party became the Prime Minister in 2007. David Cameron of the conservative party was Brown’s successor.

Rishi Sunak has sat upon the power of Britain. So the entire Indians living there have lot more expectations from Sunak. The major issue is currently related to visas on, which Britain and India are negotiating. The Former Home Minister of British, Suella Braverman, of Indian origin, have pointed fiercely regarding the visa issue. After which he had to resign due to other reasons. But ultimately, Suella’s Rishi Sunak returned to the cabinet. Therefore lots of discussions were there in Indian community about his stand. It is being believed that confrontation can be observed between Suella and Sunak. In July 2019 he was assigned as Chief Secretary to the Treasury and set foot in government service as the Minister of local government in January 2018.

Rishi Sunak, born on May 12, 1980, worked as the Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. Earlier to that, he has worked as chief secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020. He is a conservative party member and has been a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2015 for Richmond (Yorks).

Rishi Sunak is a British politician who has worked as a Prime Minister of the UK since October 25, 2022. He was born on 12 May 1980 at the general hospital of Southampton in Southampton, Hampshire. His parents were Indian descent and immigrated to Britain from east Africa in the 1960s. He studied at Winchester college, and read philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) at lincoln college of Oxford. While at oxford, Sunak had an internship at the headquarters of the Conservative Party. Also pursued an MBA from Stanford University as a Fulbright scholar.

During his Stanford studies, he met his future wife, Akshata Murthy. She was the daughter of Indian billionaire N R Narayana Murthy. The couple was the 222nd richest people in Britain, with a mixed wealth of £730 million as of 2022. After graduation, he worked at Goldman Sachs and as a partner at the Hedge Fund company The children’s Investment Fund Management and Theleme partners.

Rishi Sunak was appointed to the House of commons for Richmond at the 2015 general election in North Yorkshire following William Hague. Sunak assisted Brexit in the 2016 Referendum on EU Membership. Sunak’s father became a general specialist for the National Health Service. His mother, a pharmacist operated and owned a small pharmacy for which Sunak, the eldest of three children, could have the books. Thus during his political career, he would equalize between his experience working in his family business and the values he acquired and those of conservative party model Margaret Thatcher who was a daughter of a grocer.

Rishi Sunak got hitched to Akshata Murthy in August 2009. They have two daughters. His wife is the daughter of an Indian billionaire N R Narayana Murthy and worked as a director at Catamaran Ventures. She also runs her own fashion brand name and is among the most prosperous women in Britain. Akshata Murthy has a non-domiciled status, which means she does not need to pay taxes on her income while staying in the United Kingdom.

Murthy pays around 30,000 pounds to stable the particular status. After the media controversy on the matter which arose during Rishi Sunak’s declaration to run for Prime Minister, Akshata Murthy declared that she would pay her UK taxes on her global income. She stated that it should not get distracted and be an issue in her husband’s plans.

In 2010 he started to work for the Conservative Party. During this time, he involved in policy exchange, a leading conservative think tank for which he embellished as the head of the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Research Unit in 2014.

The policy exchange that year published a pamphlet, A Portrait of Modern Britain, written by Sunak with Saratha Rajeswaran, the deputy head of the BME unit. Sunak selected as the conservative party’s candidate in 2014 for the House of Commons representing Richmond in north Yorkshire, a safest conservative seat in the north of England which was long time held by the party leader William Hague.

Rishi Sunak was a member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee during 2015-2017. He supported Brexit at the June 2016 EU Membership Referendum. That year he wrote a detail for the centre for policy studies supporting the initiation of the free ports after Brexit. He then re-elected in the 2017 general election. Between January 2018 to July 2019, he served as a parliamentary under-secretary of state for local government. On July 24 2019, Prime Minister Boris Johnson elected him as the Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

  • Rishi Sunak was the first UK parliamentarian to take oath as MP from Yorkshire on the Bhagavad Gita in the Parliament.
  • Both of his parents were of Indian descent. His father, Yash Vir Sunak, was a general practitioner in the National Health Service and her mother ran a small pharmacy. 
  • Sunak hitched to the chief of Infosys Narayana Murthy’s daughter Akshata Murthy. They both have daughters named Krishna and Anoushka. 
  • As Chancellor of the Exchequer under the leadership of Boris Johnson Sunak lit diwali diyas in his residence on Downing street. 
  • Rishi often speaks of their heritage and the values and culture that his family often reminds him of.
