Tom Latham’s countering play century caused the Indian bowling attack to falter, as New Zealand fought to defeat the men in blue by seven strikeouts in the opening ODI on Friday. India had high hopes after scoring 306 for 7 on a pitch where a 300+ aggregate had been contested previously. They then left the Kiwis at 88 for 3 in the 20th over. Latham’s undefeated 104-ball 145 and team captain Kane Williamson’s 94 not out off 98 balls helped the kiwis eventually achieve the mark with 17 deliveries to play as they scored 221 strokes for an unbroken fourth-wicket stand.
